Danny Cannon's "Goal!" is a cliche-a-minute howler about a young Mexican footballer who is discovered by a Scottish scout playing in the Los Angeles Sunday league and becomes a star on a big club in England. Soccer always has had a bad time at the movies, typified by the image of Sylvester Stallone flapping away as a goalkeeper in John Huston's daft 1981 World War II picture "Victory," about a team of Allied soldiers playing the Nazis. "Goal!" is little better, missing the net with a starry-eyed screenplay by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais that has all the predictable elements of a Roy of the Rovers comic book tale.
