The film's producer, Martin Walsh, said Monday that Beresford is working on the script of the feature, which will have a budget of AUS$32 million-AUS$42 million ($24.3 million-$32 million), putting it in the top range of locally produced features. "All of the ingredients are there: a gripping true story, young and diverse characters filled with hope and resolve in the face of overwhelming odds, stunning visual opportunities, epic action sequences and the opportunity to showcase a high-profile ensemble cast," Beresford said. Walsh's Sydney-based production company Red Dune Films holds the rights to an authoritative book on the battle as well as the stories of the seven commanders involved in the conflict.
