Essentially a teenage rendition of William Wyler's immortal "Roman Holiday" -- with the princess transformed into the virginal 18-year-old daughter of an American president and the journalist changed into an Anglo-American Secret Service agent -- the movie contents itself with superficial and obvious situation comedy interspersed with a travelogue of several photogenic European cities. Toplined by singer-actress Mandy Moore opposite British newcomer Matthew Goode, "Chasing Liberty" will attract young women entranced by "The Princess Diaries," but the boxoffice looks modest at best. At least its major competition, Fox's similarly themed "First Daughter," has moved off the same playdate to an early spring release.
