Telluride to honor film critic

June 30, 2009 The 36th Telluride Film Festival is joining with the National Film Preserve and the Library of America to pay tribute to artist-film critic Manny Farber with a three-part program, "The Celebration of Manny Farber." Farber, who began his career in the 1940s writing art and film criticism for the New Republic and the Nation, had his first group exhibition as an artist in 1945, followed by his first solo exhibition in 1957. Said Telluride Film Festival co-director Gary Meyer: As I was finishing college in the early 1970s, film criticism was everywhere, some better than most of it.
