Verizon can really hear FiOS now
October 30, 2007 Telecommunications giant Verizon Communications continues to ramp up subscriber growth for its FiOS TV video service, which has started putting pressure on cable operators like Cablevision. The slower rollout has in recent weeks led to intensified market talk that AT&T could make a bid by year's end for one of the satellite TV giants, with the main target EchoStar Communications, but DirecTV also a possible target, analysts said. Verizon on Monday also reported 229,000 net FiOS Internet customers, bringing its total high-speed Web user base to 1.3 million.
