ABC Family ready to pay 'Middleman'

September 14, 2007 ABC Family is close to giving the green light to "The Middleman," a one-hour pilot from "Medium" writer-producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach. Based on Grillo-Marxuach's graphic novels for Viper Comics, which were illustrated by Les McClaine, "Middleman" centers on a twentysomething struggling artist recruited by a secret agency to fight comic book-type villains. ABC Family has closed a deal with Grillo-Marxuach to executive produce "Middleman" with a formal pilot order pending, subject to a budget agreement.
