Reich-Ranicki set for German TV honor

October 07, 2008 Germany's best-known book critic, the entertaining and irascible Marcel Reich-Ranicki, will receive a lifetime achievement honor at this year's German Television Awards, the German equivalent of the Emmys. A survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto, Reich-Ranicki was a key figure in the rehabilitation of German literature after World War II. Public broadcaster WDR is in postproduction on a telefilm based on his autobiography, "My Life," which stars Mathias Schweighofer as the young Reich-Ranicki.
