Venice fest honoring Ermanno Olmi
May 12, 2008 Iconoclastic Italian director Ermanno Olmi will add another Venice honor to his list of awards when the festival presents him with the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at this year's edition. Olmi, 76, has a Golden Lion from 1988 for the drama "La Leggenda del santo bevitore" (The Legend of the Holy Drinker), a Silver Lion from 1987 for his work on the comedy "Lunga vita alla signora" (Long Live the Lady!) and a special Venice critics award from 1961 for "Il Posto" (The Sound of Trumpets). Venice artistic director Marco Mueller praised Olmi as an Italian director who has chosen to "live outside all the standard fashions and trends."
