Tiananmen tale to Palm Pictures


December 04, 2007 Lou Ye's provocative love story "Summer Palace" has secured North American theatrical and DVD distribution through Palm Pictures. With its footage of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and full-frontal nudity, the film was the center of controversy in 2006 when it was submitted to the Festival de Cannes before it was approved by Chinese censors. Shortly afterward, the director and producer Nai An were banned from making films in China for five years.
