Warner/Chappell Music has named Scott McDowell, senior VP, as head of legal and business affairs, reporting to Scott Francis, company president and chairman/CEO of the U.S. operation.
McDowell, who is a music industry veteran with more than 18 years of legal and business experience, will be responsible for overseeing all of the company's contract negotiations affecting copyrights, licenses, royalties and fees, as well as other related financial and/or business matters.
McDowell, who is based in Los Angeles, succeeds Warner/Chappell executive VP of legal and business affairs Ed Pierson, who has decided to pursue new opportunities. He joined the company in 2000 as director of legal and business affairs, was promoted to VP for that department in 2003 and senior VP in 2006.
"Scott's wealth of industry knowledge and extensive experience with industry legal matters will ensure a smooth transition," Francis said in a statement.
Previous to his Warner/Chappell tenure, McDowell was director of editorial business affairs for Warner Bros. from 1999 to 2000, and before that worked in the Virgin Records business and legal department. He began his career with BMI in 1990.
