Sony BMG Oz Revives Music Pub Arm
June 26, 2008 - Global | Publishing

By Christie Eliezer, Sydney

SonyBMG Music Entertainment Australia and New Zealand has re-entered the music publishing business after four years.

Sydney-based senior A&R manager Courtney Hard will take on the additional duties as senior manager of Sony BMG Publishing, reporting to the company's chairman and CEO Denis Handlin.

Handlin said, "Courtney was a natural choice for this role through her experience in publishing and developing songwriters with ASCAP in the United States, and her A&R of many singer/songwriter releases. She also has broad music business knowledge and excellent relationships with a wide range of songwriters, artists and managers".

In the last two years, Sony BMG has extended its business operations into television and content creation through Headlock Media, brand alliances and sponsorships, artist management and is about to announce a touring division.

When the Sony Music Australia and BMG Music Australia recorded music companies merged in 2004, its associated publisher Sony/ATV remained affiliated with Sony Corp. and BMG Publishing with Bertelsmann.
