Man Made Music Opens Doors On 'The Ledge'
November 05, 2009 - Rock and Pop

By Kelly Staskel, NY

Man Made Music, the company behind NBC's theme for the Super Bowl and artist partnerships like Ice-T teaming with the History Channel for music for their show "Gangland," is debuting a new invitation-only music production library, according to founder Joel Beckerman.

The catalog, known as The Ledge, will provide original material and mixes overseen by composers, artists, songwriters, and producers to prime-time television production companies and networks. Over 1000 rock, hip-hop and electronica tracks are currently available that span moods from "chill/atmospheric" to "mystery/tension."

The goal of the invite-only selection, says Chris Langrill, manager, A&R/music supervision, and the supervisor of the library, is to prevent the overuse of certain catalog clips in programming. Invites will be extended to clients who have previously worked with Man Made Music. The clients will pay a predetermined fee for each hour of programming; composers do not pay a fee to be included and will retain 100% of the writer's share of performance royalties.

"Though the big music libraries certainly have their place and need, we felt the time had come to offer our VIP clients an extension of the high quality music created here at Man Made Music, essentially a kind of "velvet rope" experience and access to our music library," Langrill said.
