By Mitchell Peters, L.A.

Singer/pianist Harry Connick Jr. and classical saxophonist Branford Marsalis have been tapped to perform during the 57th NBA All-Star Game at the New Orleans Arena on Feb. 17.

Marsalis will perform big band melodies with the Rebirth Brass Band during player introductions, and Connick will play alongside such artists Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Davell Crawford, Art Neville, Ivan Neville, Jonathan Batiste and Ellis Marsalis, during the game's halftime.

The New Orleans-themed performances, designed to celebrate the rebirth of New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina, will air live on TNT, Score Canada and ESPN Radio.

Meanwhile, on Feb. 15 "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks will perform her single "Tattoo" during the T-Mobile Rookie & Youth Jam at New Orleans Arena. Cajun fiddler, singer and actress Amanda Shaw will sing the U.S. and Canadian anthems prior to the event.
