Marco Antonio Solís Tops Latin Albums Chart Again
July 10, 2008 - Latin | Retail

By Leila Cobo, Miami

In a week with a soft Latin release slate, Mexican superstar Marco Antonio Solís comfortably maintained his No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart for the third consecutive week with "Una Noche En Madrid" (Fonovisa). The live album debuted at No. 2 on the chart on June 28, behind stalwart Vicente Fernández's "Para Siempre," then rose to No. 1 the following week.

Recorded in Madrid last year, the CD/DVD set is Solís' first concerted bid to enter the Spanish marketplace. However, the album is not slated for release in that country until the fall.

Meantime Mariano Barba's "Nuestro Punto G" (Three Sound), his much anticipated follow-up to his breakthrough album, "Aliado del Tiempo," had a disappointing entry at No. 71 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums.

Only two new releases made the Top 20 of the chart, and both were hits collections: Grupo Montez de Durango's "La Historia" and EL Chapo's "La Historia."
